Richard Thomas Payne, 62, of 45 Lick Creek Road in Lerona died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born April 2, 1949 in Belfast, VA he was the son of the late John Clark Payne and Lillian Taylor Payne. Richard was a retired custodian at Concord University with eleven years service. He was of the Holiness faith. In addition to his parents, several brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Maggline Fletcher Payne of Lerona; one daughter, Joyce Marie Olvera and husband Chad Allen Odom of Tampa, FL; four step children, Linda Harrah and husband Robert of Lerona, Thomas Bell and wife Terri of Bassett, VA, Larry Allen Bell and wife Anna of Spanishburg, and Melissa Huddleston and fiancé Tony Cordle of Pipestem; three grandchildren, Charles Willis Ferguson, Rigoberto Araujo, and Crystal Araujo; ten step grandchildren; nineteen step great grandchildren; four sisters, Sheryl Grenold and husband Dennis of Bastian, VA, Bertha Asbury and husband Hershell of Virginia, Louise Hood of Pocahontas, VA and Ila Fields of Virginia; and two brothers, Henry Payne of Virginia and Carl Payne and wife Allison of Salem, VA. A time of sharing with family and friends will be conducted from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 7, 2012 (today) at The George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton. In keeping with Richard’s wishes his body will be cremated following the service.
