Winford Roosevelt Lester, 78, of the Mercer Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bluefield died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at his residence. Born April 11, 1934 in Wyoming County he was the son of the late Richard Alexander Lester and Mable Marie Young Lester. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corp and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Julia Mae Thomas, Hattie Suzanne Lester, Patricia Loraine Lester and Linda Kay Dryden; and one brother, William David Lester. Survivors include one daughter, Carrie Marie Plaster and husband Shannon Lane of Princeton; two grandchildren, Ryan Dale Smith and wife Makiko of Tokyo, Japan, and Neva Marie Smith Slone and husband James of Huntington, WV; two great granddaughters, Hannah Slone and Taylor Slone; one brother, Wiley Lester and wife Nadeen of Welch; two sisters, Dee Routon and husband Don of Casper, WY and Janet Webb of Crossville, TN; several nieces and nephews; special nursing staff and doctors at Bluefield Regional Medical Center ICU; and Mercer Nursing and Rehabilitation staff. In keeping with Winford’s wishes his body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
