Matthew  Panashy, Jr.
Matthew Panashy, Jr., 82, of 2256 Brickyard Road in Princeton, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at his residence. Born January 20, 1930 in Gary, WV he was the son of the late Matthew Panashy, Sr. and Mildred Wells Roach Panashy. He attended Bluefield Business School and was in the U.S. Army Medical Corp from 1947 - 1948. Matthew was a retired supervisor with C&O Railroad with thirty two years service and had formerly worked at Virginian Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Green Valley Ruritan Club, and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carman of America and the National Association of Retired & Veteran Railway Employees, International. He was also a member of the Princeton Advent Christian Church in Princeton. Matthew was formerly a Scout Master of the Green Valley Boy Scout Troop and led the opposition against the medical waste incinerator in Green Valley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Ellen Sizemore Panashy; one grandson, Matthew Jordan Panashy; two brothers, Freddie Panashy and Phillip Panashy; two sisters, Betty Fraley and Jo Ann Hall; and step father, Lew Roach. Survivors include his second wife, Phyllis Powell Panashy of Princeton; two sons, Frederick Ellis Panashy and wife Becky of Pikeville, NC and David Wayne Panashy and wife Janet of Princeton; one daughter, Kim Ann Harman of Bluefield; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Panashy, Heather Miller and husband Lee, Jonathan Panashy, Angel McClure and husband Lee, Jessica Panashy, Sharon Kay Dick, and Cynthia Renee Cregger; fourteen great grandchildren; four step sons, Ricky Allen Shepherd, Sr. and wife Debbie of Princeton, William Kelly Shepherd and wife Darlene of Athens, Jammie Lee Shepherd and wife Cary of Princeton, and Mark Shepherd of Louisville, KY; seven step grandchildren, Ricky A. Shepherd, Jr. and wife Sherry, Shannon Shepherd and wife Shelby, Travis Shepherd and wife Alicia, Jessica Bennett and husband Jacob, Savannah Shepherd, Chase Shepherd, Paige Shepherd and Ashley Carver; nine step great grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Tanner and Freda Swim both of Princeton, Linda Lou LeGlaire and husband Mickey of Los Angeles, CA, and Carol French and husband Tracy of Princeton; sisters-in-law, Nancy Panashy, Alma Sizemore, Sue Lee and Husband Doug; brother-in-law, Larry Fraley; and his faithful companion Tinkerbell (his dog). Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 13, 2012 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Rob Buchanan, Pastor Orville Harvey and Pastor Tracy French officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 12, 2012 .
