Leslie Darrell  Gillenwater
Leslie Darnell (Darell) Gillenwater, 80 , of Lashmeet died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, VA. Born January 16, 1932 In Mercer County he was the son of the late C.C. Gillenwater and Glen Lusk Gillenwater. Leslie was a U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, 7th Infantry, 3rd Battalion, Company Love veteran serving in the Korean War. He fought in two of the worst battles of the Korean War, the battle at Pork Chop Hill and Battle of Old Baldy and was honored by South Korea for his service. He attended Montcalm schools and attended church services at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Chapel in Beckley, WV. Leslie was a retired industrial electrician with Semco in Narrows, VA. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rosie Mae Rutherford Gillenwater; infant daughter, Patsy Gillenwater; two brothers, Sidney Gillenwater and Donald Gillenwater; and four sisters, Eva Wright, Zelma Bailey, Ruth Young, and Opal Kinsley. Survivors include two sons, Leslie Darrell Gillenwater, Jr. of Ingleside and Charles Calvin Gillenwater and wife Almeda Sue of Ellison, VA; one daughter, Judith Ann Shrewsbury and husband Johnnie of Beeson; three grandchildren, John Adam Shrewsbury, Michael Ralph Shrewsbury and Lisa Ann Shrewsbury; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Paul Bricker officiating, The West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton form 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Saturday. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the family.
