Ellis Ray Young, better known as Ray, 62, of 412 Lower Pine Street in Princeton died Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at the Maples Health Care Center in Bluefield. Ray was born May 1, 1947to the late Edward and Helen Young in Grayson Co., Virginia. Ray was educated in the Wythe County school system. After spending a short time in Richmond, VA, he moved to Princeton where he resided with his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Barry Early and Mrs. Wanda Early. A few of Ray’s greatest joys were walking and talking around the community, attending the local churches, cutting grass of those who lived in the community, and riding to the Village Store at least eight times a day. Ray rededicated his life and became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. You would often hear him say “You know baby, the Lord is good-thank you, baby.” In addition to his parents, three brothers, James Young, Johnny Young, and Edward Young; and three sisters, Loretta Young, Bertha M. Young and Mary Goins preceded him in death. Ray is survived by one son and one daughter from Richmond, VA; one brother, Clarence Young and wife Ann of Galax, VA; four sisters, Katherine Richardson of Galax, VA, Wanda Early and husband Dr. Barry Early of Princeton with whom he made his home, Shirley Cook and husband Charlie of Wytheville, VA, Alice Washington and husband Bishop William Washington of High Point, NC; a special friend Janice Showalter and family; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Shaun Stores officiating. Burial will follow at Old Town Cemetery in Galax, VA. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday.
