Obituary for Eunice Oxley

Eunice  Oxley
Eunice Oxley, 89, of 251 Oxley Road in Athens, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born April 20, 1923 in Athens she was the daughter of the late Doc Oxley and Etta Munsey Oxley. She was a graduate of Athens High School and Concord University. Eunice was a retired teacher for McDowell County schools with forty years service last teaching at Big Creek High School. She was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church and the Rachel Myers Circle. She was also a member of the Athens Chapter #33 Order of Eastern Star and a former member of the Spracher-Woody Chapter #9739 of the VFW now affiliated with the Tazewell VFW Chapter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Myrtle Oxley, Nellie Mann, Nettie Rose Lockhart, Evelyn O. Mann, and twin sister, Anice Gates; and one brother, James R. Oxley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include several nieces and nephews including special nephew, Johnny Gates, with whom she made her home for the past sixty five years. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Concord United Methodist Church in Athens with Rev. Greg Godwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Athens Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton form 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, July 15, 2012 with the Athens Chapter #33 Order of Eastern Star conducting a service at 7:30PM.
