Obituary for Clarence "Tink" Trinkle Oxley

Clarence "Tink" Trinkle  Oxley
Clarence T. “Tink” Oxley, 84, of 1534 Old Athens Road in Princeton, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born January 12, 1927 in Athens he was the son of the late Estel Francis Oxley and Delilia D. Martin Oxley. Tink was a 1944 graduate of Athens High School and was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 aboard the U.S.S. Little Rock, Seaman First Class as a gunners mate. He retired from Bluefield Daily Telegraph in 1992 with over forty years service. Tink was a member of the Melrose Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder for many years. He was also a sixty three year member of Concord Masonic Lodge #48 A.F. & A.M. Athens Chapter 26 RAM, serving as a Past Master, a Charter member of the former Melrose Lions Club, Past President and Board Member of the Mercer Anglers Club, and Past Board member of the Athens Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active supporter of the former Athens High Athletic Boosters for many years and served as the official time-keeper at Athens High School home basketball games for many years. He was known as “PeePaw” to his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many of their friends. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Harold Oxley and Ralph Oxley; and one sister, Margaret Shupp preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Sarah Elizabeth “Tibby” Rice Oxley of Princeton; three sons, Edward “Ed” Oxley and fiancé Carol Felts of Princeton, Timothy R. Oxley and wife Greta of Bridgeport, WV, and Terry L. Oxley and wife Earlene of Bluefield; nine grandchildren, Christopher Oxley, Nicholas Oxley, Trevor Oxley, William Oxley, Sara Oxley, Tara Dutta, Brittany Aust, Morgan Oxley, and Emma Grace Oxley; two great grandchildren, Jackson Oxley and Jillian Oxley; one sister, Rosalie McKenzie of Athens; and three brothers, James Oxley of Oakvale, Pearis Oxley of Princeton, and Bennie Oxley of Athens. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Melrose Presbyterian Church with Dr. Mickey Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Members of Concord and Princeton Masonic Lodges serving as pallbearers. Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Christopher Oxley, Nicholas Oxley, Trevor Oxley, and William Oxley and nephews, Danny Swim and Pete Wade.
